My Boss & Pen Pals

the best way i can put it is that my print-shop boss does not like dogs. and it's not because he prefers cats. he also doesn't like cats. he doesn't want kids and he can't understand the concept of calling any animal anything beyond "just an It."

originally i had described him as "demanding but fair" and i wouldn't change that entirely. i might just add that he also may be a machine.

he firmly looks down on anyone who uses a pencil, citing "fear of commitment" saying people who need an eraser have "abnormal insecurities."

on some level, i agree. just not in the same 1's and 0's as him.

i knew gimptard was ending when a cartoon-me started showing up in the comics. it's sort of like student films that have dream sequences: gimmicky and a birthed out of a lack of creativity.

around then, i secretly started drawing another comic-- it was meant to be the worst comic ever drawn.

that comic was pen pals, and it was all about the life and drama of pens.

the only thing worse than a cartoonist drawing himself into a comic is drawing his own god damn pen.

but here's one in the name of my boss.
my plan is to do quite a few more of these pen pals-- some of you have probably seen five or six i've already got stuck away in my moleskine or on facebook. and i'll be talking to my robo-boss about prices to print them [and several other drawings] as 11" x 17" singles and 5" x 7" triptychs.

your plan should be to buy them!
